HAT // Panama

The fibers that make up the raw material for crafting a Panama hat come from the Toquilla plant (Carludovica Palmata), an herbaceous palm-like species (family Cyclanthaceae) that grows in the neotropical region stretching from southern Guatemala to Bolivia. For weaving, only the species from the mountainous areas between southern Manabí and northern Santa Elena in Ecuador are used, due to the flexibility of their leaves.

Every summer, the legendary Panama graces our heads to complete our look while protecting us from the sun. From the classic model to the elegant wide-brimmed hat, including the traditional planter with its flat crown, the Panama remains an accessory that enhances any outfit. The traditional weaving of the Ecuadorian toquilla straw hat was inscribed in 2012 on UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
